One of the most common questions we get is, “how much does it cost to join?”
As a growing colony, we like to keep our finances up-front and easy to understand. One of the major benefits of joining a growing fraternity is that each individual in the group has an equal opportunity to decide where and how his money is spent within the group, and because of this, the Delts at UCLA have one of the most competitive dues compared to other fraternities.
Collectively, we use our monthly dues to determine how we budget our activities and what type of events we want to plan. From sorority dinners, to brotherhood events, parties and community service activities, Delts try to stay well rounded in everything we do.
There are basically two sets of dues you pay to pledge Delta Tau Delta at UCLA.
The Pledging and Initiation Fee
A pledging fee of $75 that goes directly to the national organization, covering the fees for your Member Education Handbook, Pledge Badge, and registration in the national Fraternity. An initiation fee of $277.15 goes directly to the national organization, covering your gold badge, membership certificate, subscription to the Fraternity magazine, first year of annual dues, Loyalty and Centennial Funds, and all right and priviledges of a member of Delta Tau Delta.
Local Membership Dues
A monthly fee setup by the local chapter to help pay for the events that the fraternity as a whole decides to participate in. This includes brotherhood outings, social events, weekend retreats, Intramural sporting leagues, fraternity conferences, and any other activity the fraternity decides to participate in. It also covers IFC (inter-fraternity council) dues, as required by all officially recognized fraternities at UCLA on an annual basis. Monthly Active dues are $125 for all members. This is the income of the fraternity and without chapter dues, a fraternity would not be able to operate effectively.
TOTAL FEES DUE UPON PLEDGING
A payment of $125 is due upon initiation as a pledge. This covers the $75 national Pledging Fee, and the remainder is applied toward the national Member fee.
After your initial year within the fraternity, you will be responsible for paying national dues and insurance fees which total an annual payment of $307.00 to the national organization. These dues are applied only after you become a full-fledged member of the fraternity, and will insure you and the fraternity in the event of an incident. These dues also cover the national operating budget for the Fraternity. Money in this fund provides for chapter consultant support, materials, supplies, and regional/national conventions that all brothers are invited and encouraged to attend.
